This study examines the phenomenon of Urban Infill in Qaraqosh, northern Iraq, by assessing the extent to which vacant or underutilized lands within existing urban boundaries have been utilized. It analyzes spatial and structural transformations between 2010 and 2024 through high-resolution satellite imagery and GIS, focusing on building density, coverage ratios, infill rates, and land-use distribution. Results indicate a significant expansion of built-up areas, especially residential zones, often replacing public and open spaces. This reflects intensifying urban pressures and a pattern of internal growth within the established urban footprint. Several urban indicators were employed, including the Plot Coverage Ratio Index, Built-up Density (BUD), Urban Infill Rate (UIR), and the Infill Development Potential Index (IDPI). The IDPI results reveal that future infill opportunities are limited to approximately 0.92%, underscoring restricted flexibility in reallocating or reusing remaining available lands.
