Our research, titled "The Poetics of the Unreal in the Novel A Small Death by Mohammed Hasan Alwan," explores the poetics of the imaginary—or the unreal—as it manifests through the narrative requirements of the novel. This study is divided into two main aspects. The first aspect examines how the poetics of the unreal are projected onto the dimension of time in all its forms, as employed by the author in accordance with the necessities of narration. This includes narrative pauses, temporal retrospections, and anticipations that shape the structure of the narrative vision. The second aspect investigates the projections of the poetics of the unreal onto the spatial dimension in all its aspects, distinguishing between closed and open spaces. The study focuses on analyzing temporal and spatial elements that contribute to interpreting the aesthetic dimensions of the imaginary through a non-realistic narrative framework. Given that the novel does not strictly adhere to a mimetic representation of reality, this research examines the characteristics of the imaginary or the narrative unreal through the dimensions of time and space, highlighting how they contribute to the poetics of the unreal as reflected in the textual thresholds and unfolding events of the novel.
