Sayyid Mohsen Al-Amin and His Approach to Confronting Extremism Through His Book Kashf al-Irtitab fi Atba' Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab.

Abstract

Sayyid Mohsen Al-Amin is considered one of the most prominent figures of the Twelver Shia in the 13th century AH. He was distinguished by a comprehensive and progressive reformist thought, which was reflected in his numerous works covering various fields of knowledge. Perhaps the most renowned of these is his vast encyclopedia A‘yan al-Shi‘a, which has become an essential reference for researchers.

Sayyid Al-Amin lived during a period that witnessed the rise of extremist Wahhabi groups, which expanded and spread with the support of Western colonial powers and Saudi funding. This enabled them to attract a significant segment of Muslim youth. In response to this ideological wave, Sayyid Al-Amin confronted this movement through his speeches, lectures, and critical writings. One of his most significant works in this regard was Kashf al-Irtiyab fi Atba‘ Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab, which gained widespread attention not only within Twelver Shia circles but also among scholars from various Islamic sects.

This research aims to shed light on the origins of Wahhabi extremist thought and critically analyze it through the study of Kashf al-Irtiyab. The study adopts rigorous scientific methodologies, relying on sources and references from leading scholars of Sunni schools of thought. This lends the book a high degree of credibility and objectivity, making it a subject of interest across diverse intellectual currents within the Islamic world.
