Soil Class affected by snow cover factor and erosion process in Ikmala -Dohuk area using RS-GIS techniques

The soil types in the study area are exposed to water erosion due to surface runoff within river channels, varying spatially for lithological, pedological, vegetation cover density, terrain characteristics (height, slope, aspect), and snowfall distribution. The study was conducted in the Ikmalah area, northern Iraq, within Dohuk Governorate’s administrative boundaries, covering 93.4 km². It aims to build a qualitative assessment model for water erosion and snow accumulation using the Stream Power Index (SPI) and Normalized Difference Snow Index (NDSI). A Model Builder was constructed within ArcMap 10.4.1, and its properties were modified to define the spatial analysis mechanism based on a Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Results identified soil types and their areas exposed to various erosion degrees, those subject to snow accumulation, and the river network reaching the fourth order.
