Textual Representation of Sustainable Development in Iraqi Prime Minister’s Discourse: A Critical Discourse Analysis

Sustainable Development is a current global issue. Its importance is very recurrent in the discourse of leaders. This study investigates the textual strategies implemented by the Iraqi prime minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani in four selected speeches on sustainable development. The study adopts Fairclough’s (1995) three dimensional model of critical discourse analysis (CDA) with a particular focus on the textual level through analyzing lexical choices, rhetorical and grammatical structures and intertextuality. The study adopts a qualitative-descriptive approach to find out how such discourse reflects ideological positioning and policy framing. The analysis reveals a diverse of discursive patterns that reflect shifting political priorities and rhetorical strategies tied to development narratives in post-2003 Iraq. This research contributes to a broader understanding of how sustainability is discursively constructed in transitional political contexts
