This research addresses the lack of clarity regarding the scientific and epistemological foundations on which Arabic digital Muṣḥaf applications rely when selecting Qur’anic exegesis, and the resulting impact on users’ initial exegetical understanding. It examines the criteria for selecting exegesis, the types of commentaries adopted, their modes of presentation, documentation levels, and the extent to which the digital medium shapes meaning. The research aims to identify these criteria, examine the nature of the adopted interpretations, analyze presentation mechanisms, and clarify their effect on exegetical understanding. It employs descriptive, analytical, critical, and comparative methods, using a content-analysis tool. The research population comprises Arabic digital Muṣḥaf applications that provide verse-linked exegesis, while the purposive sample includes four applications: Ayat, King Fahd Complex applications, Wahy, and Mushaf Surah. The findings reveal variation in documentation, institutional superiority, abridgment, reliance on single exegesis, and presentation effects on clearly guiding users’ understanding of digital Qur’anic meaning.
