The Framing of Sustainable Development Issues in the Iraqi Newspaper Al-Sabah

This study aims to identify the journalistic framing strategies adopted by the Iraqi newspaper Al-Sabah in addressing issues of sustainable development, through a content analysis of a sample of its published issues. The research employs a survey methodology using the content analysis approach, with a structured coding sheet designed by the researcher as the primary research instrument. The findings reveal that the newspaper places greater emphasis on the social dimension compared to other dimensions of sustainable development. News reporting emerged as the most frequently used journalistic genre, while neutral coverage predominated overall. The newspaper also demonstrated a clear reliance on news agencies and a preference for rational persuasive techniques. The results further indicate a relative weakness in analytical depth and an imbalance in the coverage of the various dimensions of sustainable development.
