Badr Shakir al-Sayyab is regarded as a pioneer of an innovative poetic movement that profoundly impacted Arabic poetry. The renowned poet endured immense pain, bitterness, and sorrow, which shaped his sensitive psyche. Psychological turmoil accompanied al-Sayyab from an early age until his death, following a prolonged struggle with illness, alienation, and displacement. These experiences were clearly reflected in his poetry, where personal suffering was transformed into rich artistic material expressing human pain, existential anxiety, and helplessness in the face of illness and death. Furthermore, his social, political, and personal circumstances significantly contributed to his poetic vision, combining subjective experience with broader human concerns. Consequently, his poetry became laden with symbols and imagery mirroring his internal conflicts and yearning for redemption. This endowed his poetic experience with a deep psychological dimension, establishing it as a prominent model for examining the relationship between psychological condition and literary creativity in modern Arabic poetry.
