The concept of "seeking aid" refers to requesting assistance or support, as in "He sought help from his neighbor" or "Governments sought assistance from other nations during emergencies." It reflects the diplomatic maturity of ancient Near Eastern states, which were pioneers in organizing foreign affairs. This research aims to show that seeking aid extended beyond military and political contexts to include social, health, and financial domains. Evidence comes from documented texts and royal correspondence exchanged among Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Hittite Kingdom, Persia, and ancient Syria. Covering the period between 2000 and 539 BCE, the study highlights a time of flourishing kingdoms and evolving diplomacy. It demonstrates that seeking aid was a multidimensional tool used to shape international relations, revealing a sophisticated network of cooperation and mutual support across diverse sectors in the ancient world.
