The Role of Iraq in the Political Conflicts Between the Umayyads and the Abbasids: Between the first and second centuries AH / seventh and eighth centuries ADA New Historical Perspective

Iraq is one of the main centers that witnessed radical transformations in the history of the Islamic state، as it played a pivotal role in the political conflicts between the Umayyads and the Abbasids during the transitional periods between the seventh and eighth centuries AD. This research will address the impact of Iraq as a theater of conflict and a political tool in reshaping Islamic authority، as Iraq was an important center of administration and control in the Islamic East، and Kufa and Basra played an important role as major cities in this context. The relationship between the rulers of Iraq and the Umayyads of the Levant was characterized by tension and competition for power، which led to the emergence of many anti-Umayyad movements within Iraq، such as the Kharijite and Shiite revolutions. The Abbasids exploited the deep tensions between the segments of Iraqi society to form popular support for their revolution against the Umayyads، so they worked to attract various political forces in Iraq. By tracing the main events such as the massacre of Al-Zubayr and the revolution of Abu Muslim Al-Khurasani، the research explains how Iraq turned into a main arena for the political conflict between the Umayyads and the Abbasids، which ended with the Abbasids coming to power.
