The critical position of Friedrich Schleiemacher towards deniers of religion

Abstract

In this research, we try to clarify Schleirmach's critical attitude on some of the deniers of religion, starting from religious, social, and intellectual impacts that influenced this philosopher and formed his intellectual frame. Schleirmach is truly regarded the founder of general hermeneutics and the father of modern religious studies. He is well known in presenting different and new understanding of religion through which his first attempt is to triumph over those intellectuals who despised religion and belittled its value as a result of their extremist mentality and their lack of understanding of the truth and essence of religion. Therefore, we find his book entitled " On Religion". Religion is speeches to intellectuals who despise it. There are speeches in which intellectuals are attacked. But these speeches did not make Schleirmach leave the Catholic Church and the philosophers of religion without criticizing them. He saw that they had harmed religion as a result of mixing it with other fields that did not agree with it in the same essence. For him, religion was the feeling of communication with the absolute.
