Abstract

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most strategic maritime passages, through which a significant portion of global energy supplies flows, making it a central pillar of global energy security. This study aims to analyze the geopolitical importance of the Strait amid the global transformations of 2026 by examining its impact on the stability of oil and gas markets, understanding regional and international competition over its control, and assessing the security risks that threaten energy flows. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach based on recent data and reports. The findings indicate that the Strait represents a critical chokepoint in global supply chains, with nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil consumption passing through it, while geopolitical tensions continue to increase its strategic sensitivity and influence market stability. The study concludes that the Strait of Hormuz will remain a decisive factor in global energy security due to its strategic location and the difficulty of finding effective alternatives in the near future.
