The extent to which graduate students’ use ChatGPT technology in preparing theses and dissertations in light of scientific research ethics

Abstract

This study examines the use of ChatGPT techniques by higher education students in completing academic theses and dissertations، with a focus on the ethical challenges and obstacles encountered in scientific research. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach and involved a sample of)  75(postgraduate students from Higher Diploma، Master’s، and PhD programs. Data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using various statistical methods، including percentages، the Likert scale، weighted arithmetic means، standard deviations، coefficients of variation، and measures of relative importance. The findings indicate that a significant proportion of students (59.6%)acknowledged the advantages of using ChatGPT in academic writing، particularly in accelerating the research process and saving time and effort. The study concludes that promoting student participation in workshops and seminars is essential to enhance awareness of the ethical use of ChatGPT and to guide students toward responsible، secure، and reliable application of this technology in achieving their academic goal
