Manifestations of Identity in the Poetry of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Waeli: A Cultural Study

This study aims to explore the manifestations of identity in the poetry of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Waeli. Identity is considered one of the most significant issues in cultural studies, as it represents the “self,” which is the maker of civilization and the driving force of history. Identity finds its most vivid and evident expression in poetry, since poetry is an authentic personal expression of the poet’s feelings, translated through his words and style into a poetic form that embodies moral, humanistic, doctrinal, national, and cultural values, traditions, and customs to which the poet belongs and simultaneously advocates. All of these elements collectively represent the poet’s identity. Hence, poetry plays a major and decisive role in shaping identity. Accordingly, this study seeks to uncover the identity of the poet Al-Waeli by tracing its manifestations throughout his poetic works.
