Molière is a renowned French writer, celebrated for his remarkable ability to use satire to expose the flaws and vices of the society of his time. In that era, society was divided into various social classes, and Molière frequently criticized the class system in place at the French court, highlighting the injustices it created. His comedies often targeted the flaws of a particular era, group, or dominant social class.
"Les Femmes savantes" is an example of literary satire in which Molière mocks the behavior and attitudes of his contemporaries, especially women who strive to appear more learned than men, particularly in fields like literature and philosophy. Through his theatrical works, he effectively shed light on the structural and social weaknesses of 17th-century French society, establishing himself as a key figure in the development of satirical theatre in European literary history.
