الملخص

بعد إعلان استقلال تكساس عام 1836م، قرر سكانها لأسباب داخلية وخارجية تأسيس جمهورية مستقلة بهم، ومنذ الأيام الأولى لاستقلالهم سعى سكان تكساس إلى الانضمام مع الاتحاد الأمريكي بحثاً عن الأمن والحماية والكثير من المزايا الأخرى التي ستحقق لهم في حال انضمامهم للولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وهو ما حدث في نهاية المطاف عام 1846م في عهد الرئيس أنسون جونز.

لقد أضاف ذلك الحدث منافع استراتيجية واقتصادية هائلة إلى الاتحاد الأمريكي إلى جانب كونها امتداداً طبيعياً لحدود الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية ووجودها القاري، وما امتلكته من ثروات ومزايا، مكنتها من تعزيز وجودها ومكانتها العالمية.
