Abstract

This research employs a semiotic analysis to examine the symbolic meanings of four selected numbers in the Holy Quran, with the aim of enhancing the comprehension of the divine message conveyed in the Holy Quranic texts.  Previous works have predominantly highlighted the mathematical and some linguistic aspects of the numbers in the Holy Quran but none of them has dealt with the semiotic perspective of these numbers. Therefore, this research aims to explore the semiotic interpretations of four numbers from the Holy Quran. The research examines the numbers: one, seven, ten, and one thousand. Employing a qualitative methodology, the analysis involves the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data, supplemented by a statistical table to enhance understanding and substantiate findings. The theoretical framework for this research is based on Charles Peirce's (1939) TRIADIC model of semiotics. The findings suggest that ‎each number is linked to the theme of divine supervision and justice, where the numerical symbolism extends beyond literal meanings to offer moral and existential insights.
