رابطة مناهضة الصالونات الوطنية وتطور حركة الحظر في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية 1893-1920

شكلت مشكلة الإدمان على المشروبات الكحولية، وآثار الخمور الاقتصادية والسياسية والاجتماعية وربطها بالمشاكل المتمثلة بالفقر والجريمة والأمراض، اهتمام عدد كبير من حركات الإصلاح، لاسيما حركات الإصلاح التي تزعمتها الكنيسة البروتستانتية؛ وبسبب هذه الأهمية تم اختيار هذا الموضوع للدراسة، من أجل تسليط الضوء على تطور حركة الاعتدال في الولايات المتحدة، حتى تزعمها من قبل الرابطة الوطنية لمناهضة الصالونات التي تأسست عام 1895، وصولا إلى أبرز نجاحاتها في اقرار التعديل الثامن عشر للدستور عام 1918، والكشف عن أسباب هذا النجاح الذي نظر إليه الكثيرون في حينه على أنه بعيد المنال بسبب انتشار شرب الخمور في جميع الولايات الاميركية وضمن النسيج الاجتماعي للمجتمع الاميركي. وكان للأسلوب التنظيمي للرابطة، والتكتيكات التي اعتمدت عليها في تحقيق أهدافها، مثل تركيزها على تجارة المشروبات الكحولية، وليس شاربيها، من أجل الحصول على دعم الجميع، وتركيزها على الجانب التشريعي لفرض الحظر، فضلا عن تزامن نشاط الرابطة مع المزاج الإصلاحي للولايات المتحدة مع بداية القرن العشرين، وتوحد أهدافها الإصلاحية. وكان لأحداث الحرب العالمية الأولى 1914-1918 وتطوراتها جانب مهم في حظر الخمور بموجب التعديل الدستوري الثامن عشر.
