This study, entitled "The Pragmatic Dimensions of Linguistic Silence in Textual Conversations: A Descriptive and Exploratory Study," investigates the role of intentional linguistic silence in communication from a pragmatic perspective. It examines silence as a companion and alternative to speech when circumstances require it, highlighting its functions, purposes, and meanings within linguistic interaction. The study also explores the level of awareness among fifty university students from the Department of Arabic Language, College of Languages, Salahaddin University, regarding the use of silence in written textual conversations, where meanings are conveyed without words. The research consists of an introduction defining silence and its functions, followed by two main sections. The first analyzes silence in textual conversations through a pragmatic framework that integrates theory and practice. The second presents a field-based survey that statistically and analytically assesses students’ awareness of silence as a communicative tool. The study concludes with a number of findings presented in the final report.
