Sociolinguistic Study of Euphemism in the Prophet Mohammad's Hadiths

Abstract

The present study concentrates on euphemism in the Prophet Mohammad's Hadith. It mainly focuses on figurative use of euphemism in relevance to religious and social subjects. It shows that euphemism , being literary genre, saves time and efforts in speech. The reason for using euphemism is to reduce offence of linguistic terms changing them into more acceptable and respectable forms. They are generally used in order to save the positive face of speaker and to have efficient communication between interlocutors.
