تُعدّ الأمثال من أهم عناصر اللغة، إذ تُستعمل يوميًا في مختلف المواقف. تكمن مشكلة الدراسة في أن للأمثال مؤديات أفعال مخنتلفة في سياقات معينة. فضلًا عن ذلك، فإنها قد تتضمن أساليب بلاغية تُضفي على النص طابعًا بلاغيًا. تهدف الدراسة الحالية إلى: الكشف عن أكثر أنواع أفعال الكلام استعمالًا في الأمثال و تحديد أكثر الأساليب البلاغية استعمالًا فيها و الكشف عن الوظائف التي تؤديها هذه الأمثال. ولتحليل البيانات فقد تبنت الدراسة نموذجًا توليفيًا وهما سيرل (1979) و ليج و شورت (2007). خلصت الدراسة إلى النتائج التالية: أولًا، إن أكثر أنواع أفعال الكلام استعمالًا في الأمثال قيد الدراسة هو الفعل التوكيدي. ثانيًا، فيما يتعلق بالأساليب البلاغية، تبيّن أن أكثرها استعمالًا في الأمثال هو الاستعارة. ثالثًا، خلصت الدراسة إلى أن الأمثال تؤدي وظائف متنوعة في الأعمال الأدبية.
