إضافة الشّيء إلى نفسه بين التقعيد والاستعمال
Abstract
The present study deals with one of controversial issues in Arabic Grammar, namely, Annexation of something to itself. It shows the different attitudes of Basra and Kufa grammarians in this area regarding complexity and use. Basra grammarians prohibit the annexation of some thing to itself. They even try to defy any example that shows this relation and try to explain it in a way suitable for their denial. On the other hand, Kufa grammarians allow such usage. The pioneer of this opinion is al-Farra (204 H) who writes the meanings of the Holy Quran where he exemplifies the above issue from the Quranic texts. The present study discusses both opinions and then it defies both of them. The study depends on linguistic dictionaries to find out that the given examples of both schools regarding annexation are not synonymous to say that something is annexed to itself. Linguists think that synonymy of two items has to be in one respect. The study depends on this fact to deny the existence of annexation of something to itself in Arabic. This study is the first which deals with this issue and defies the Basra and Kufa grammarians’ opinions with new and decisive examples.
